weighted words

Ahh, ok, now the geeking comes out.

This list is from Andrew Taylor's excellent blog about arts management which i really like and highly recommend (it will go on the link list).

...and i really like the whole idea of "weighted words" (also known as tag clouds) - picture maps of how frequently certain words or tags are used on a particular site or text or whatever. Visual mapping of concepts always gets me excited.

Look at the list. There is only one proprietary noun. It appears 213 times. It didn't hit me until i looked at it for awhile, i was just enjoying the size and sounds of "audience", "experience", "world", "creative", "social", "value", "great".... and thinking about what i might say...but there was no "her's" there....

you know, the girl in me really feels i have to say that it isn't picking on this or any other person, writing, blog, site, organization, company or whatever. It's bigger than that. Ok, that's out of the way...to be continued i'm sure.

From there, i went for the stats. I can go on about the methodology behind this stuff and the categories and how the figures are arrived at, but that would take at least a couple of beers....for anyone curious, you're buying. The pdf has a lot more detail.

I'm still building my context, but the next post i do i'm going aim for more artistic contribution...

collision with a revolutionary turn

A few thoughts:
This is a space to continue our discussions about how to assess, impact, change and otherwise shake up our field, as women and as artists with strong opinions and differing approaches. We may be aiming towards holding some sort of an event, collision, symposium or something that brings together politics, arts and other issues. This blog can be a tool to develop that; it can also be a place to share resources, talk through process issues, plan, plot and devise...

We agree to agree and to disagree. It's all fodder.

This blog is public so be sure that you are ok with anything you post being read by anyone. Comments are restricted to members but anyone can read it. If there are sensitive subjects or virulant rants, an email might be advised... Also, if you would like to invite others, let me know and I'll add them to the members.

Eventually it would be great to have a blog roll and other online resources added in. We'll keep working on that.

...and thanks to Dominque Dumais (if I remember correctly) for our title...
